The Livonia Memorial Scholarships
have been awarded by Livonia Rotary, over the past (5) years. Over $16,500 in scholarships have been
granted in the names of Ted and Susan. Last year alone we paid out
$5,000.00 to benefit studentsin Avon, Honeoye Falls, and Livonia School
Districts.
Winners of the Ted Wiggins Award have displayed extraordinary academic achievements and are interested in pursuing an education in the law field. Ted was a Life long resident of Livingston County, serving as District Attorney, and Livingston County Court Judge. He was a Past President and member of the Livonia Rotary Club, and a graduate of Honeoye Falls-Lima High School. This year's Livonia Memorial Tournament was attended by Ted's brother Bob, and his widow Julie and their son Adam.
Winners of the Susan Dougherty Award have displayed
extraordinary academic and extra curricular achievements and have an interest in pursuing a degree in the dental field. Susan was a graduate of Avon High School, and a resident of Livonia. She was the wife of Funeral Director Kevin Dougherty, and a mother of (3) young children. She worked with her father Dr. Phillip D'Angelo as a Dental Hygienist in his Avon practice.
Funding is received through the Livonia Memorial Golf Tournament, held the second Tuesday of June each year.
Last year's tournament was held on June 13 at Old Hickory Golf Club and was attended by 160 golfers.
Tournament support last year was raised with sponsorships from 109 local businesses and individuals, including a Hole-in-one contest sponsored by W. C. Becker Lincoln Mercury for the chance to win a 2000 Lincoln LS.
Our hopes are that these scholarships given in the names of Ted and Susan help these students earn a degree, and inspire them to do their best.
